Farm Update - March 2023

It's been a tough month for us here on the farm - everything feels like a bit of an uphill battle! TB continues to cause us problems, and the continued heavy rain has meant we have been unable to plant any arable crops. Our spirits have been lifted slightly by the arrival of our first few calves, so we are holding on to the joy of their arrival and trying to remain positive!

Farm Update - February 2023

January is one of the few months of the year that is a touch slower for us on the farm, so we have been enjoying taking stock of what's going on, getting some of those long standing jobs ticked off the list, and doing some ‘what’s next?!' planning. We are even managing to squeeze in a much needed holiday in February, before we enter into the throws of lambing, calving, drilling etc. ... Once we hit March time it is pretty much non stop until after Christmas!

You will all know that we have been battling TB on and off for a number of years now, and you may remember that at our skin test back in September we lost 10 cattle to the disease - a huge number for the size of our herd. Because of both the longevity and severity of our outbreak we were ordered by the Animal Plant and Health Agency to have a diagnostic blood test, alongside our 60 day skin test in December.

Change is coming …

We send you this mailing with the news that we will be scaling back the Northmoor Meat Company in January 2023. Whilst 12 months ago we saw this part of our business being something we wanted to grow, the constantly rising costs, the difficulty in finding reliable butchery with the availability needed, and the significant time it takes us to run this part of our business has ultimately led us to this decision.
